  1. Hi friends!
Next, I'm going to write about the last book I've read:
Disclosure is a novel written by Michael Crichton and set in a fictional American high tech company named DigiCom in the early nineties. The protagonist, Tom Sanders, is a mid-level manager happily married who is waiting for a desired promotion after ten years of hard work. But his life changes when an ex-lover, Meredith Johnson, gets the promotion instead. They have a private meeting in her office and after this she accuses Tom of sexual harassment.
This page-turner book is written with a thrilling stile which pushes the reader to want to know how it finish. The main characters are powerful and well-drawn, which makes the story totally believable. Regarding the plot, it focuses on a rare topic: a sexual harassment of a man by a woman.
In 1994, Disclosure was adapted for film. It starred Michael Douglas as Tom Sanders and Demi Moore as Meredith Johnson and it was a box office hit.
All in all, it is well worth reading to spend your time enjoying an entertaining book.
I hope you like it ;-)

    1. Thanks for sharing your review! This novel clearly reverses the expected gender roles, and that's the most appealing aspect for me.

      Some improvements to the text:
      ...high-tech company...
      ...thrilling style...
      ...how it finishes.
...topic: a man subjected to sexual harassment by a woman.

  2. Hi, everyone. Yesterday I finished to read a exciting novel called In the shadow of the mountain. My charming English teacher, Margarita, asked me to do a review about it but I’m not sure if I’m working correctly on it. I attach my review. Please if you have time read it and help me. Bye classmates.

In the shadow of the mountain, by Helen Naylor, is a mysterious and tragic love story that takes place in Zermatt, a mountain’s village of Switzerland.

This intriguing novel tell the story of Clare Newton, a journalist that has to travel to Switzerland to bring home the body of her grandfather who died alter a horrible climbing accident at Matterhorn, a famous high mountain, 74 year ago and now he has been found frozen from the bottom ice of the glacier.

Nevertheless, as she investigates her grandfather’s last climb, she learns that the accident wasn’t as simple as had first thought. She find out that her family has a huge and tearful secret.

The novel relate two love stories between Clare and Bruno, her sky teacher and mountain guide, and on the other hand, grandfather’s Clare, Edward Crowe now found died and Marianne, aunt’s Brune, a lovely and gracious girl of the small village.

I really like this novel because along its story you find romantic, mysterious, adventurous and dramatic moments. This is that makes the novel more interesting. The best part of the book is the mysterious atmosphere and the two related love stories. The worse part is the end, I expected an incredible ending more surprising than the real end of the novel.

On the whole it is beautifully written and it is well worth reading. I would recommend it to everybody who like intrigue stories. It is a highly entertaining read.

  3. Hi everyone!!

I would like to share with you my last reading experience :

“The Bridges of Madison County" is a best-selling novel written by Robert James Waller in 1992. It tells the story of Francesca, a married but lonely woman who live in Madison County. Francesca engages in an affair with Robert, a mysterious photographer who is visiting Madison in order to photograph the covered bridges in the area. They fall in love quickly and live a passionate romance for four days while Francesca´s family are out of town. But the story is set in 1960´s, when marriage and love were understood in a different way and Francesca is unable to leave her anodyne life and gives up on true love. We are used to reading romantic stories where love seems to be only for young people but this book narrates a different love story between two people in their fifties who believed that they weren´t going to live this kind of experiences never again.

This is a well constructed novel which is written in an style inmediately accesible to any reader and a deeply affecting love story that if you are a sensitive person it´s probably that you end up crying. It was made into a film in 1995 by Clint Eastwood.

I strongly recommend this book although you don't like romantic stories. It gets that you reflect about your values and philosophical questions like love, personal sacrifice, and suffering.

  4. Hi readers!!!
I just read the book: Theodore Boone: The Abduction, is a novel written by the famous author,John Grisham. This novel, is set in modern-day during a week in Strattenburg, a small city of California.

This is the second book in the series, about the story of Theodore Boone's best friend April Finnemore. One night, her mother finds her room empty and with April no where in sight. After calling the police, they conclude on the high chance of April being abducted. Theo is soon called by the police to come over, since he was the last person April talked to. Multiple people believe it was Jack Leeper, April’s uncle, who was sentenced to life for kidnapping ten years earlier, that kidnapped her because he escaped from prison at the same time she went missing.

Not only does the author use any specific literary technique but faithfully portrays his story in a very comfortable and casual way. Also, he had permeated many kinds of real-life social problems and moral issues in this fictional book, allowing deeper inferences and messages he wants to convey through this book, interesting plot and some degree of suspense.

Theodore is a teenage boy thirteen-year old with big ambitions. His parents are busy lawyers, and he wishes to follow in their footsteps and become a lawyer too.
April, is a thirteen-year old girl (about the same age as Theo) who has been Theo's friend since childhood. April's home life is a mess, her parents were divorcing. Her mother has a drug problem, and her father is always on the road with his old rock band from the 1980s. She had an older brother named August and a older sister named March, and both fled the family.

I like this book because the vocabulary was easy. An awesome adventure, and probably the most realistic book i've ever read. This book is exciting, but also predictable.
I'd recommend this book to young readers because of the simplicity and exciting storyline, I wouldn't give this book the highest rating.

  5. Hi, everyone!

I just read the book “In the Tall Grass”, by Stephen King and Joe Hill, and I would like to share with you the review of this book.

In the Tall Grass is a book written by Stephen King and his son Joe Hill. This well-written book is set in a mysterious field of tall grass that grows next to a deserted road in Kansas.

The story begins when two inseparables sibling, Cal and Becky, decide to take a cross-country trip because Becky is pregnant and she wants to live with her aunt and uncle until the baby is born. During the trip when they go by Kansas, in the Route 73 to be exact, they suddenly hear the cries for help of a lost child in a field of extremely tall grass situated next to the road, so they decide to stop on the road to look for the child. What at first seemed an easy work, it will be the biggest mistake made in their lives.

In the Tall Grass is an interesting tale despite having a predictable ending, in which the writers have created a dramatic and tragic horror plot. It is written in an style clear and accessible to any reader, with well-developed and very believable characters.

Never before have I read a horror novel because I don’t like much this genre, but this book is highly entertaining and is well worth reading. If you like this genre or you are fan of Stephen King, I am sure that you will enjoy reading this book.

  7. Hello to everybody!!!!
Have you read your book yet???
I'm going to talk about the book I've reading in these days.

The title of the book is "OF MICE AND MEN", is a thought-provoking story written by John Steinbeck in 1937, structured en seven parts.
This book tells the story of two ranch workers in the "Great Depression" times in California. The "friendship" is the central event of this story.
The main unfortunate characters are two ranch workers, one of them is called, Lennie Small, he's a strong man with a low intellectual level and the other George Milton, he's an intelligent man without studies. They want to find a job in a ranch to make a living. Besides, they wish to save some money in order to buy their own ranch. It's their dream but they always spend all their money in alcohol and brothels, consequently, they never achieve their dream.
Apart from this, Lennie is a difficult person due to his low intellectual level, he gets into troubles all the time and George always help to him. Under no circumstance will George abandon his friend, even thought George perfectly knows that his life will be better without his friend.

The plot is skilfully constructed and a deeply affecting story with a lot of feelings. The characters are
    well-drawn and moving.

This novel is set in California where the huge misery and insecurity were present in these days.

The book in written in a style immediately accessible to any reader. The writer write the story with a common language and some details such as "Glad ta meet ya", "S'upose", "A'wright", this sentences are used by Lennie because he doesn't speak well.
The friendship is memorable and eloquently described with remarkable depth of feeling.

This is a really moving book which I recommend to read it to understand the heartless conditions of the poor people in these time also the strong and emotional relationship between two person.

  8. Hi everyone!

I'm going to talk about the book I've read recently:

The boy in the striped pyjamas is a moving fictional story, which is set in Berlin, Germany during World War II. This book was written by John Boyne, who is one of the most famous writers in Ireland. The main character is a kid, called Bruno, the son of a Nazi commandant.

First and foremost, it’s a book written from the innocent point of view of a nine-year-old child, who is not capable of understanding the current situation around him. The story begins when Bruno’s father gets a new assignment. Consequently, Bruno and his family are forced to move to Poland, in an unfamiliar place next to the concentration camp. While staying there, he meets a Jewish boy, called Shmuel of the same age, who lives on the other side of the fence. From then on, they start seeing each other secretly, both trying to understand why they live in such a different situation.

This novel conveys deep, moving feelings, and the style in clear and incisive, but also rather long. Although it’s a very sad story especially in the end, it teaches you may important things about life.

Taking everything into account, I highly recommend this book because it tells an interesting and lovely story about how a true friendship can overcome even the worst condition.

  9. Hi everyone!
I have just read an English classical fantasy novel for young adults, titled “The Wind in the Willows”, by Kenneth Grahame.

This book is set in and around The River Bank, The Rolling Open Road and The Wild Wood, in the early 1900´s.
The novel follows the adventures and misadventures of the ´human like´ animals Mole, Ratty, Badger, Toad and others.

The story begins with Mole at home spring-cleaning, which he dislikes intensely. He leaves his house because he felt something up above was imperiously calling him. When he arrived at the river, he met Mr. Water Rat and some of his friends.
The plot is gripping, and has an unexpected twist when Toad, who is obsessed with motor cars, steals one. He is arrested and sentenced to jail but he escapes disguised as a washer-woman. While Toad is in jail, his friends have to deal with the bad reputation they have acquired for being his friends. Later, Toad Hall is taken by wild wooders, and the four friends join together to recover the house.

It´s a thoughtful, eloquently delivered novel which has been skillfully constructed, a deeply affecting story of true friendship.
The characters are all exceptionally well-drawn, and they act like animals and human beings at the same time.

I would strongly recommend this book because it´s an unputdownable novel, which is entertaining and educational.
I reckon that “The Wind in the Willows” is well worth-reading, because it has got enthusiastic and vivid descriptions of the scenery, and the real meaning of true friendship.

  11. Hi guys! How's it going?

My last book is The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925 and probably his greatest novel. It is a product of its generation (1920s) and an American classic and a wonderfully evocative work. The book is set in Long Island and New York in the summer of 1922.

The novel’s events are filtered through the awareness of its narrator, Nick Carraway who moves to New York and rents a house next door to the mansion of an eccentric millionaire, Jay Gatsby. Every Saturday, Gatsby throws a party at his mansion and all the elite of the young fashionable word come to marvel at his extravagance, as well as swap gossipy stories about their host, who is suggested has a murky past. Despite of his high-living, Gatsby is dissatisfied and Nick finds out why. Long ago, Gatsby fell in love with a young girl, Daisy. Although she has always loved Gatsby, she is currently married to Tom Buchanan. The two ex-lovers meet and soon rekindle their affair, but soon Tom begins to suspect them and challenges the two of them.

In my opinion, the author described the characters so well that you feel that you know them and that you are part of the story due to the fact that the narrator is a character in the story, but the hero. From his viewpoint, we get to know Gatsby little by little, as though we were his new neighbours.

Without doubt The Great Gatsby is a book that you should read in any time of your life. Not only is it considered to be one of the great American novels, but also it captures brilliantly the American dream in a time when it had descended into decadence. The characters are the larger than life cast in a cautionary tale about money, corruption, desire and deception that’s just as relevant now as it was in 1925.

  12. Hi everyone!!

How long haven`t you read a hilarious book? Last month I read one of the funniest books that I have read so far. It is the debut novel of Jonas Jonasson.

The Hundred year-old man who climbed out the window and dissapeared. And that is exactly what Allan Karlsson did just before his 100th birthday party was about to start. In his run away, is joined by a suitcase full of cash, an old convicted man, a red-hair woman, a depressed hot-dog shop owner, an elephant, a yellow bus and some variety of corpses. Behind them, the police and the suitcase owners.

As you can see Allan isn`t an ordinary senior man. And what about his early life? Amazing!!! A peripatetic journey that make finding himself in many of the most important events of the 20th century, such as the creation of the atomic bomb, or even sharing meals and drinks with Stalin, Franco, Truman, Einstein´s brother, or Mao Tse Tung.

An absurd and entertaining black comedy, very well-directed across de real history but through the chaotic life of a unreal character. The accesible vocabulary, a page-whizzing narrative and the eloquent black humor make that book the perfect read for your next holidays.

  13. Alice´s adventures in Wonderland.

    Hi everyone!

I am going to write about the last book I have just read, “Alice´s adventures in Wonderland”. It was written by Lewis Carroll (His original name is Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) in 1865.

Alice is sitting by her sister on the bank, when suddenly she sees a white rabbit which is running on the garden with a watch. She chase to it, and then she tumble down to the rabbit-hole. So it begins the extraordinary Alice´s adventure, which captivate you to a fantasy world, where the girl knows to curious characters.

Alice is trapped in this place, where she lives surrealistic, unbelievable and enjoyable situations. Moreover, she knows eccentric characters such as; the mad Hatter, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, the Queen of Hearts, etc. She speaks with every animals and creatures, about different matters, it makes you think and reflect.

The plot is hilarious, and brilliant, you can not avoid smiling when you read the description of the situations. So, taken everything into account, Do not you want to know what happens to Alice in Wonderland?

This is a riveting tale, full of twists, Carroll gets attract you to this gorgeous world. The book is written in a style accessible to any reader, skillfully constructed and page-whizzing narrative. The main character is Alice, a girl who is determinate, clever and courageous. The other characters are well-drawn, implausible and surrealist.

This book is hugely well-known, overcoat for the famous Walt Disney´s cartoon film “Alice in Wonderland”, and recently the Tim Burton´ film version in 2010, but I reckon that people must read the original book, because it is better than any cinematographic adaptation. It will surprise you. I really recommend the novel, and the second part too, “Through the looking-glass”. If you read the books, you will understand the fantastic Alice´s world.
